All vacancies below manager level at the Human Rights Commission are advertised in this section subject to a prior internal recruitment process. For vacancies of manager level and above, a process of both internal and external recruitment is followed. The Commission encourages applications from people of all ethnicities and people with disabilities.

Job descriptions for vacancies are competency based, which means that roles are described in terms of the knowledge and skills that are required to carry out the duties of the position.

Recruitment in the Commission is based on merit, meaning that:

  • An assessment is made of the relative suitability of candidates using a competitive recruitment process
  • The assessment is based on the candidates’ work related qualities as they relate to the competencies required for the position
  • The assessment focuses on the relative capacity of the candidates to achieve outcomes related to the position, and
  • The assessment is the primary consideration in making the employment decision

Your written application will be considered by the recruitment panel in order to short-list candidates for interview. It is therefore important that your CV is up to date, clear, concise and complete while demonstrating how you could be effective in the position. A poorly developed application may limit your prospects of an interview.
