Commission’s work supporting human rights issues
The Human Rights Commission’s work supporting sexual orientation and gender identity human rights issues includes:
- a booklet Born Free and Equal: A quick guide to sexual orientation, sex and gender identity
- a paper on marriage and adoption equality (June 2012)
- a chapter on the rights of sexual and gender minorities in Human Rights in New Zealand 2010
- holding a Transgender Inquiry (www.hrc.co.nz/transgenderinquiry ) and working with others to implement its recommendations
- putting out the To Be Who I Am e-newsletter updating people on that progress
- hosting two Intersex Roundtables
- working with other national human rights institutions in the Asia Pacific region on these issues, including by hosting a Yogyakarta Principles Forum at the Outgames human rights conference
- speaking out about publically about human rights issues for sexual and gender minorities.
