Tangata Tiriti – Treaty People: community learning about the Treaty of Waitangi

This session will demonstrate how to involve communities in learning/teaching each other about the Treaty of Waitangi, and the place of all settlers as Treaty People under the Treaty. Participants will enjoy doing four or five activities that inform about early relationships with Maori, reasons for a treaty, the language of the Treaty, and contemporary debates.

The popular resource book & CD Tangata Tiriti – Treaty People will be available at the forum.

The session will be useful for community leaders, community educators, ESOL tutors, service providers, and policy makers re: migrant service provider development.  Participants will feel confident in recommending the Tangata Tiriti interactive approach to their communities and arrange full orientation or training.
