The value of a diverse workforce in the NZ workplace

The Auckland Chamber of Commerce has a programme called New Kiwis that has been in existence since 2001 – funded by the Department of Labour the objective of this programme is to promote the skills of returning Kiwis and Migrant job seekers to NZ businesses. Its purpose is to educate employers about the value of diversity and prepare newcomers to NZ for the Kiwi workplace. We raise awareness about issues affecting migrant employment and assist employers to help migrants settle better in the workplace. In addition, we are in the process of rolling out an Intercultural Communication Awareness programme to employers where we teach participants how to communicate across cultural barriers within the workplace. Our recruitment and workplace settlement services are free to both job seekers and employers alike and our aim is sustainable employment outcomes that will benefit both Migrants and NZ businesses.
