The Commission is delighted to announce the winners of the I am Aotearoa competition. Congratulations are in order for Room 12 at Henderson Intermediate (Auckland), Room 2 at Elm Park School (Auckland) and year 5 and 6 students at Cashmere Primary School (Christchurch). A class-set of each winning poster will be making their way to these classrooms soon.

The Commission’s competition offered classrooms around the country the opportunity to design their own poster for this year’s Race Relations Day. Many colourful, creative and enchanting entries arrived in our office postbox.

Race Relations Commissioner Susan Devoy said, “It was difficult deciding on the three winning posters as we received a wide range of entries. It is fantastic to see students around the country embracing diversity by participating in Race Relations Day in this way.

“Congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone who entered. A special thank you to those teachers who organised their classroom entries. We’d love to hear of any other initiatives schools and classrooms have undertaken to promote and encourage harmonious race relations in Aotearoa. Let’s keep working together to celebrate Race Relations Day in some way every day. Let’s keep working together to make Aotearoa a better place, a place for everyone.”
