Key Dates

This is a list of key dates and public events that are widely celebrated in NZ. These provide opportunities to acknowledge diversity in the workplace, schools, the media and the community. A number of Diversity Action Programme participants use these occasions as a starting point for scheduling events, celebrations and diversity projects.

  • Waitangi Day: 6 February 2012
  • Race Relations Day: 21 March 2012
  • NZ Sign Language Week : 30 April- 6 May 2012
  • Samoan Language Week: 27 May- 2 June 2012
  • World Refugee Day: 20 June 2012
  • Mātāriki: 21 Pipiri 2012 (21 June 2012)
  • Māori Language Week: 23-27 Hōngongoi 2012 (23-27 July 2012).
  • Tongan Language Week: 4-10 September 2012

World Holocaust Remembrance Day (The International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust) is observed on January 27 each year.

Religious Festivals

The main religious festivals are noted for the information of employers and human resources staff to use in scheduling important events in the workplace.
