Hindu Council of New Zealand

The Hindu Council of New Zealand has been working for the community since 1996 in New Zealand. Since May 2006, the Hindu Council of New Zealand is a registered Incorporated Society, a not for profit charitable organisations. It has a team of dedicated and committed volunteers with good understanding and clear vision inspired by eternal values of Dharma.        

The Hindu Council of New Zealand aims to deliver services of education, self-development, cultural development, sports development and care for the elderly, youth and children. It aims to bring all like-minded organisations and institutions in New Zealand together to promote universal human value and co-existence.

Second Wellington Region Hindu Conference

The second Wellington Region Hindu Conference was held at the Waiwhetu Marae, Lower Hutt, on 9 April.  The theme of the conference wasHindu-Maori Perspectives on Holistic Health: From Individual and Whanau to Community”. The conference was organised by the Wellington chapter of the Hindu Council of New Zealand, Inc. in cooperation with the Waiwhetu Marae.

Maori hosts and Hindu manuhiri got together at the conference in the spirit of the Arohanui ki te Tangata (Goodwill to all Men) and Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam (World is one Family) at the Marae. Participants included local Iwi, Hindus from New Zealand and overseas, and Government Ministers, parliamentarians, officials, and representatives from the voluntary sectors.

Yogathon  New Zealand

Yogathon New Zealand, a division of the Hindu Council of New Zealand, is launching a nationwide ‘Health for Humanity’ Yogathon 2011 which aims to create awareness about art and science of yoga, and its advantages in achieving a healthy body, mind, and spirit.

Yogathon launch event will take place simultaneously at 10.00 am on Saturday, 13 August 2011 in different cities such as Wellington, Auckland and Hamilton. This is going to be first of its kind Yoga initiative for collective practise of Sun Salutations across New Zealand.

Yogathon organising committee invites various yoga centres, schools and tertiary institutes, social, cultural, and spiritual and community organisations, regardless of individual faiths and beliefs, to register in this ‘Health for Humanity’ Yogathon, and continue practicing Surya Namaskar beyond the ‘Health for Humanity’ Yogathon.
