Marlborough Migrant Centre

The Marlborough Migrant Centre provides a central place for newcomers to Marlborough to access information, services, events, etc. It also providess support to ensure newcomers feel welcome and accepted into the community. The Centre also works with agencies and community organisations with regard to migrant matters. We have a field worker and a coordinator at the centre.

Marlborough Migrant Centre: Promoting and Facilitating Unity in Diversity

The Marlborough Migrant Centre’s goals are to:

  • provide reliable and informed services
  • implement strategic plan
  • deliver integration seminars for newcomers
  • expand community networks with organisations, agencies and ethnic and other communities
  • promote positive race relations
  • events to celebrate multicultural diversity in Marlborough
  • work to promote and facilitate unity in diversity in Marlborough.

Multicultural Festival, Pollard Park in Blenheim

We will hold the sixth Multicultural Festival on February 26, 2011 at Pollard Park in Blenheim, celebrating Marlborough’s cultural diversity with music, food, arts, crafts, information stalls and much fun for everyone.

International Soccer Festival

We will be holding the second annual International Soccer Festival in mid-2011. In 2010, the event was held at Marlborough Lines Stadium. It is a free, non-alcoholic event, which is open to everyone in the community. Teams are registered from many different countries (more than 10 in 2010), and there is entertainment, competitions and music. It is a positive celebration of cultural diversity in Marlborough through some healthy competition. The date and venue for 2011 is yet to be confirmed. Mother and Children’s Group

Fortnightly Coffee Mornings

These will be held at the Marlborough Migrant Centre (Marlborough Migrant House, 21 Henry St, Blenheim) twice a month. It is child-friendly environment. You can contact the centre for more details: 03 579 6410.

International Women’s Group

The International Women’s Group meets once a month to share ideas, discuss wellbeing, settlement in NZ, visit organisations and agencies, start new friendships, and have fun. The times, dates and venues change each month. Contact the centre for more information: 03 579 6410.

Newcomers Network Potluck Dinners

Intercultural Awareness and Communication Programme

This new programme is aimed at businesses and organisations in the Marlborough region and will commence mid-2011. It is designed to enable participants to develop more awareness of their cultural characteristics and those of others so they can communicate more effectively across cultural boundaries. The workshops focus on using effective communication to build the kinds of relationships that will lead to effective workplace interaction.
