New Zealand Asia Association Inc (NZAA)

The New Zealand Asia Association Inc (NZAA) is a non-profit community organisation with the Right Reverend Sir Paul Reeves as its patron.

NZAA aims to promote unity, goodwill and understanding between the peoples of Asia and New Zealand. NZAA Inc believes that the spirit of friendship, goodwill, understanding and unity is enhanced by encouraging people in the diversity of their respective cultural backgrounds to socialise and work together on community projects.

Viva Eclectika

The Viva Eclectika 2011 Intercultural Dance and Music Challenge will be held on 27 August 2011, 7.00pm at the Dorothy Winstone Cen, Howe St, Auckland.

Organized by the New Zealand-Asia Association (NZAA) Inc, this biennial event has been run in association with the Human Rights Commission Race Relations Office since its inception in 1999 and is part of the Diversity Forum 2011.

NZAA encourages communities to recreate dance/music which fuses aspects from their own culture with that of at least one other different culture to forge positive relations in the community. The Ethos of Viva Eclectika is Purposefully Intercultural.

The Aims of Viva Eclectika are:

  • To promote unity, goodwill, understanding and positive race relations in the general community of New Zealand through intercultural dance and music.
  • To enrich the New Zealand-Asian cultural experience through a fusion of Asian dance and music with New Zealand’s diverse cultures.
  • To nurture positive race relations in the general community through a fusion of dance and music.

 First prize of $2000 and the Viva Eclectika Cup
