Otautahi Maori Wardens Association 2006. Aroha ki te Tangata, for the love of the people is the philosophy and kaupapa that drives Maori Wardens to act as kaitiaki in their communities
The service provided by Maori Wardens is mostly voluntary and can be seen at a number of community events, providing security, traffic control, crowd control, first aid and confidence for the public.

Description of Project
- The Otautahi Maori Wardens Association 2006 Incorporated are passionate about increasing the capacity of this much needed community service. The ideas encompasses are;
- The vision of Otautahi Maori Wardens Association 2006 Incorporated revolves around planned growth and development of the kaupapa leading to sustainability.
- The following mission statement reflects the intentions of the Otautahi Maori Wardens Association 2006 Incorporated.
Mission Statement
- To carry out service which are beneficial to our members and the community at large, for the relief of poverty, advancement of education, heath, recreation and social welfare with specific attention to meeting the needs of youth, the aged and those that are socially and economically disadvantaged.
- Growth possibilities have been considered with collaboration as the most likely option for expanding services.
- External factors will always have an influence and the group needs to recognise the impact of political, economic, social and technological factors.
- Clear strategic planning objective have been formulated and centre around;
- To be cash flow positive leading to long term sustainability.
- To increase community awareness of Maori Wardens service.
- To carry on providing this service in a cost effective manner.
- To continually seek and capitalize on new opportunities.
In order to achieve those objectives key factors were identified
- Internal infrastructure development
- Collaboration and networking
- Planning, development and implementation
- Sustainability through self sufficiency
The Vision
- To follow the kaupapa of being an Otautahi Maori Warden
- To follow the teaching of our Tupuna
- To be out among the people of all walks of life
- To make ourselves available to old and young alike
- To provide a specific service for events
- To help with the kaupapa and protocols of being Maori
- To liaise with local Hapu, Iwi and Runanga
In terms of Growth
- To grow in capacity within our organisation
- To ensure training and upskilling is implemented
- To be paramount out in the community
In terms of staffing
- Continue the staffing of more Maori Wardens
- To develop wage structure
- Implement a process to warrant and re-warrant our Maori Wardens
- To be able to re-submit warranted Wardens to be re-warranted
- To develop and implement an induction process
