The Rotorua Newcomers Network organises casual meetings or activities that encourage friendship; to help migrants and newcomers feel accepted and welcomed while settling in Rotorua. Rotorua Newcomers Network is managed by Rotorua Multicultural Council Inc. which is a member of the New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils Inc.

Networking Lunch
Newcomers to Rotorua are welcome to join a monthly networking lunch to meet other newcomers or local people.
Tuesday 07 June at Relish Café.
Thursday 14 July at Le Café de Paris.
Time:12.00pm-1.00pm.
U&I CAN COOK
A monthly one-hour cooking class which features different cultural dishes to learn taught by migrant home cooks.
Wednesday 15 June- learn to cook Thai Chicken Curry at Rotorua Youth Centre. Cost to be advised. Time: 6pm-7pm. Upcoming classes to be advised.

Newcomers Guided Tour-Cultural Heritage Walk
A one-hour scenic leisure walk starting at the Rotorua Arts Village (1240 Hinemaru St.) to the Government Gardens, The Blue Baths, Rotorua Museum and back.
Bastille Day
The Rotorua Newcomers Network will celebrate with a themed Networking Lunch. Guests are encouraged to wear something “French” and speak French to place an order. Booking required.

U&I Learn Maori
Multicultural Rotorua in association with Whakarewarewa-The Living Thermal Village invite Rotorua migrants and newcomers to a hangi on Saturday 30 July at Whakarewarewa (Tryon Street), to celebrate Māori Language Week, as the theme this year is Manaakitanga.
The world-famous Whakarewarewa visitor guides will take migrants and newcomers through the experience and share their history, the teachings of their ancestors and the perpetuation of their art, crafts and culture. Having a hangi meal completes a Māori cultural experience.
Samoan Language Week 2011 in Rotorua
‘Samoa Ola- Samoa Active’. Rotorua is hosting the Samoan Language Week Celebration on Saturday 04 June 2011 at Rotorua Girls High School Hall (251 Old Taupo Rd, Hillcrest Rotorua) 1:30-4:30pm. We will be recognizing Samoan achievement and contribution in New Zealand, and focusing on encouraging young adults to embrace their culture and encourage healthier lifestyles. We invite you to come to Rotorua to join us in the celebration and witness a small snapshot of Samoan culture. Rotorua Girls and Boys High Pacific Island Group will be performing. Light refereshments are available.

Multicultural Rotorua Edible Garden Planting
Saturday 17 September.1pm-3pm at Rotorua Youth Centre (Te Ngae Road). Cultural communities and newcomers to Rotorua are encouraged to donate vegetable seedlings for the community garden and to plant a no dig garden. Learn about about weeds and garden pests prior to gardening. Bring your own gloves. Gold coin donation. Brought to you by Multicultural Rotorua and Rotorua Newcomers Network, in cooperation with Hanna’s Bay Community Restoration Trust.

Whakarewarewa Friday Night Market
Nau mai haere mai- welcome one and all to “The Whakarewarewa Friday Night Market” every Friday 5-8pm at 17 Tryon St. Rotorua. Indulge in the unique taste of the Whakarewarewa hangi pie, be enticed while being entertained by Te Pakira Kapa Haka Group at 6pm and be inspired by select weavers, carvers and craft artists.
Rotorua Newcomers Network_Bite-size learning
Saturday 24 September. 10am-1pm at Rotorua Arts Village (1240 Hinemaru St.) Exhibition Hall Kitchen. Palestinian Cook Nabih Mansour will show us how to make Arabian flatbread, lentil sou and semolina cake. Shared meal afterwards. Bring your own apron. Cost: $10/person.
