Upper Hutt Indian Community Group

Over the last five years many new immigrant communities have settled in Upper Hutt, but there are very few organised community groups of new immigrants in the region. That is why the Upper Hutt Indian Community Group (UHIC) was formed four years ago, led by Ms. Aparna Prakash, a teacher at Heretaunga College.

The group consists of families of Indians living in Upper Hutt who come from the various states of India, Fiji and Malaysia. The UHIC has previously presented cultural dances and songs at various events in the greater Wellington region, including those hosted by Asia NZ Diwali, Government House, the Indian High Commission, Police College and Fiji and Indian Associations.
