Projects 2011

Women’s Workshop on Formal Meeting Procedures

We are hosting a training workshop for women on formal meeting procedures to enable them to participate effectively in meetings. This is scheduled to take place later this year.

The Festival of Cultures

As part of the nationwide celebration of Race Relations Day 2011, we  organised a Festival of Cultures at the Expressions Centre in Upper Hutt on Saturday 21 March 2011. This was held in association with the Upper Hutt City Council. The festival featured a wide variety of cultural performances and food, product and information stalls. At the end of the event there was a shared meal.

Upper Hutt Mini World Cup

The Regional Multi Ethnic Football Championship (Upper Hutt Mini World Cup) organized by the Upper Hutt Multicultural Council is now part of the migrant and refugee communities’ as well as of the Wellington Region’s sporting calendar. It is held in September-October each year.

The tournament celebrates cultural and ethnic diversity and in particular provides an opportunity for socialising and networking among communities. It is a football friendly environment for new migrants or refugees to build confidence and break barriers to participating in mainstream soccer events in the winter soccer clubs. The Regional Multi Ethnic Football Championship is growing from strength to strength, getting more exciting, fun, and enjoyable.

We are working on funding to ensure the viability of this event.
