Auckland Chinese Community Centre Inc

The Auckland Chinese Community Centre began as the Auckland Chinese Hall around 1960, and became the Community Centre in 1975. It has a branch in Mangere and another in the city centre; it coordinates events and provides a recreational space for the Chinese community in the area.

Chinese New Year Festival and Market Day 2012 – The Year of the Dragon

The Chinese New Year Festival and Market Day 2012 – Year of the Dragon is being held in Halls 3 & 4 of the ASB Showgrounds on Saturday, 21 January 2012 between 9.30am and 4.00pm.

This annual celebration has been organised by ACCC for over 20 years and it has become a highlight of the Auckland summer events calendar with attendance by 10,000 to 20,000 persons or more. The 2012 event next year will feature the following activities:-

  • Grand Opening by the Prime Minister at 10.00am with traditional Lion Dance
  • Over 200 specialist stalls selling traditional & exotic Chinese hot delicacies, Chinese New Year foodstuffs, Chinese traditional arts & crafts, & promoting advisory services
  • Special group of performers from Gansu, China featuring shadow puppetry & traditional musical instruments
  • Extensive entertainment programme of Chinese cultural songs, dances & musical items
  • Outdoor entertainment programme including  martial arts, tai chi and modern Chinese bands
  • Lucky wheels and games & rides for children
