Coordinating service and “one stop shop” for resettlement and integration issues for new migrants in the greater Christchurch area. The Centre also hosts secretarial services and meeting facilities for ethnic associations.
The Centre’s vision is for all new migrants to Otautahi to experience “Te Aroha ki te Takata” (the welcoming of strangers) that the Takata Whenua (indigenous Ngai Tahu Whanui) displayed to the first European migrants. The migrants’ settlement will be enhanced with services which assist them to feel valued, aware and involved in the City’s life, and to become full participants in the social, cultural and economic activity of Christchurch.

The Migrant Centre will achieve this vision by:

- facilitating free access to information and settlement services
- providing and managing high quality administrative services
- maintaining high standards of referrals and effective networking
- identifying, and referring on, emerging needs to service providers
- consulting with both migrants and service providers on settlement issues
- coordinating a range of on site services
- encouraging migrants to view the Centre as a place of welcome

Endorsed by New Zealand Ministry of Social Development, Christchurch City Council, and Ngai Tahu (the indigenous people of this land).

The Centre plans to support Race Relations Day, Waitangi Day, Chinese New Year, Samoan Language Week, Matariki, World Refugee Day, Maori Language Week, NZ Diversity Forum.
