Commemorating Waitangi Day: celebrating one people

CCR4U will commemorate Waitangi Day on Saturday 11 February at Orakei marae.

With limited funds we ask anybody who wants to come to bring a plate. Any culture/language who wants to participate is asked to bring

1.         A translation of the Treaty to put into the Kete (a real woven one there)

2.         A person to read the Treaty out loud in the translated language

3.         A cultural performance – song/dance in costume

Agenda

1.  Karakia

After Maori karakia, ministers from different religions, invited beforehand, will offer a small prayer each.

2.  Read the Treaty aloud in Maori and other languages

Maori model the programme to be repeated in different languages by

  1. reading treaty out loud in Maori,
  2. giving a performance item
  3. putting written translation in kete

3. Repeat read aloud Kete themes in Maori

Between each language group’s item we repeat read aloud one of the Kete themes in Maori following the 1,2,3 steps

  1. One person reads aloud a sentence
  2. One person and the crowd repeat the sentence together
  3. The crowd repeats the sentence on their own

4. Conclusion

The Repeat Read Aloud Programme for Adults

In Henderson, New Lynn, Northcote, Ranui and Massey libraries CCR4U runs
The Repeat Read Aloud Programme for Adults when we repeat read aloud one-on-one and in a group. Up to 10 Language Learning Readers and 10 Reading Volunteers work together as a team.

Every term every team contributes to its own Kete-Community Journal published on www.repeatreadaloud.co.nz
