Pataka Museum of Arts and Culture

Pataka is the cultural heart of Porirua City. Dedicated to celebrating our heritage and showcasing the very best in contemporary Maori, Pacific Island and New Zealand art.

At Pataka you’ll see work from leading local, national and international artists with a fantastic range of heritage and social history exhibitions. The museum is housed under the same roof as the Porirua City Library, a traditional Japanese garden and Cafe Kaizen, a cultural oasis in Porirua City.   Pataka is located next to the Te Rauparaha Arena.

Events Programme

As part of the exhibition programmes, we run an events programme for visitors to get a closer understanding of our exhibition concepts. In the past we have run a programme to celebrate Race Relations Day.

Education Programme

During normal term time Pataka Education offers students of all ages a unique educational experience to reflect one of the most culturally diverse cities in New Zealand. Our teacher-trained education staff custom design each school programme to fit into today’s Art, Social Studies, Science, Technology and History curriculum.
