Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary, Rome, May 2007

Sister Maddalena Lonardine, general councilor of the Missionary Sisters of the Socity of Mary, Rome, wrote in appreciation after receiving her copy of the New Zealand Statement on Religious Diversity:

Thank you for the copy of the Statement on Religious Diversity. How important are the 8 simple articles underlined in it! If only every country followed them! You are lucky, you in New Zealand, because from the beginning of your history you had the Treaty of Waitangi where Religion and Government proclaimed their independence, freedom and respect for each other. It is already a "Culture" for people there.

The Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary are a Roman Catholic religious congregation and their South Pacific Province comproses sisters living and working in Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand and the Philippines. They have a commitment to living in multi-cultural communities in each of these countries, and also send women on missinos throughout the world, e.g. Algeria, Germany, Jamaica, Peru, Colombia, Madagascar, Rwanda, Tanzania. Fostering good inter-cultural and inter-religious relations is key to their service.
