Acting Chief Executive, Muaausa Pele Walker

Muaausa Pele Walker has been with the Human Rights Commission since 2006.

For the last four years she has been the Chief Mediator for the Commission. Prior to joining the Commission, Pele’s professional experience included senior management roles with the Otago Health Board, the Office of the Auditor General and Resolution Institute. She has worked with the State Services Commission and NZ Police. Of Samoan heritage, Pele was made a Member of the Order of New Zealand in 2016 for services to Pacific arts and the Pacific community.

She co-founded and is a past President and current member of the Wellington branch of PACIFICA Inc. She has held a number of governance and government advisory positions as a member of the Pacific community. Pele has an MBA and BA (Hons) from Victoria University of Wellington.

She holds a post-graduate Diploma of Business Studies in dispute resolution from Massey University and is an accredited mediator with Resolution Institute.

Muaausa Pele Walker became the acting chief executive in January 2019.
