Frequently Asked Questions

Funeral arrangements

What is the law if family members disagree over the funeral arrangements of someone who has died?

Disputes over funeral arrangements sometimes happen when family members disagree about the best way to respect the wishes of someone who has died. The Human Rights Act does not apply here. These disputes should be approached with caution and an effort to understand everyone’s views. Find out more about the Commission’s position on this issue.
