Australian Gill Hicks was almost killed in the July 2005 London Tube bombings. She lost both her legs. After recovering Gill devoted herself to a mission of spreading peace, setting up charity Making a Difference for Peace to counter terrorism and foster better links between Muslim and other communities.
Listen to her interview with Radio New Zealand's Kathryn Ryan where she discusses empathy in the face of diversity.
You can also her Gill speak at the New Zealand Diversity Forum, where she will be delivering the keynote address, and at Thursday's Auckland Conversations event where she will be discussing the importance of 'Building Bridges, Not Walls'. While this event is free to attend, registration is a must. You can register here.
