March 2, 2020

We are very pleased to announce that Tricia Keelan has joined the Commission as Pou Ārahi/Deputy Chief Executive.

Tricia's iwi affiliations are Ngāti Porou, Te Aupouri,  Ngāti Kahungunu and Rongomaiwahine.

Tricia is looking forward to working with Chief Executive Rebecca Elvy and the team to support the Commission to bring its commitment to becoming a Tiriti-based organisation to fruition and to building pathways for tangata whenua human rights in alignment with tino rangatiratanga and indigenous rights development.

Over the last 10 years, Tricia has held strategic ownership for Te Tiriti o Waitangi within a number of organisations, including responsibility for Tiriti-based development, policy, relationships, planning, funding and delivery of services to Māori.  Tricia comes to us from Te Moana a Toi, Bay of Plenty DHB, where she has been the Manukura, Executive Director Toi Ora. She has previously held executive roles within the health sector and policy roles within Te Puni Kōkiri, the Ministry of Health and New Zealand Parliament. Tricia holds a Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, an Executive MBA, Te Pinakitanga ki te reo Kairangi and is currently studying towards her PhD in indigenous development.

“Tricia is an incredible wahine toa, “ says Manahautū/Chief Executive Rebecca Elvy “we are very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with her. As an organisation we have committed to becoming Tiriti-based, and that journey is largely uncharted and unmapped. Stepping into the unknown can be scary, but with Tricia to guide us, we will be in very safe hands.”
