Human Rights Checklist

For disaster preparedness, prevention and recovery responses

As part of the Human Rights Commission's report about the people living or owning vacant land in the residential red zones in mid-2015, a human rights checklist was developed. The checklist is a for government agencies and non-governmental organisations to use in developing disaster preparedness, prevention and recovery responses.

It is solely concerned with principles that protect the human rights of affected people and calls for an approach where people are at the centre of decision-making policies and practices. The Checklist draws on the key findings of the report and the human rights principles in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
