The Yaniv Janson Project

Yaniv Janson: An Introduction

Yaniv Janson is a young contemporary artist from Raglan, New Zealand. Yaniv uses art to raise awareness about social and environmental issues and inspire disabled people to achieve their goals and get active recognition by pursuing their passion. Art has changed his life - so now he wants to use it to change others' lives.

Yaniv, who has Asperger's Syndrome on the Autistic spectrum and epilepsy, has exhibited in 12 solo and 25 group exhibitions across four countries. He was the youngest artist invited into the NZ Academy of Fine Arts after being selected as a finalist for the National Contemporary Art Award and the James Wallace Trust Art Award. His work was showcased in 30 national and international media pieces. He recently won the 2015 National Youth Award Best Abstract prize.

The Commission will be showcasing Yaniv and his work in a 12 part series to show people how they too can create positive change in their communities through doing something they enjoy.

Issues Yaniv works on

Yaniv has been working on raising awareness about climate and social issues for several years.

In 2010, Yaniv launched an environmental campaign raising visual awareness about climate change.

In Yaniv's words:

"I paint about what life will be like when climate change gets worse... That's just what I do. That's my message to the world."

"I offer a different contribution. I feel there is already a lot of information out there but it has failed to result in significant action. I want to create an emotional response with images of the future. What will happen when the sea level rises? Houses and land will disappear under water for ever! I especially drew a thin line for the earth in this paining - to show how fragile this balance is."

In 2013-14, he followed on with a bee protection campaign in collaboration with the global corporate Comvita, hosting a VIP event to introduce his "Beehive Hidden in Trees" artwork.

Yaniv also co-leads a UNESCO project designing educational resources to train support staff working with disabled people and collaborates with Apple to distribute some of these resources.
