Human Rights and You - Ō Tika Tangata

Human Rights Education Online

The Human Rights Commission has developed an online education programme, Human Rights and You - Ō Tika Tangata, to provide world-leading education that will help New Zealanders develop their understanding of what human rights are and what they mean.

The programme have framed human rights in a uniquely Kiwi context – discussing the issues and stories that have framed the development of human rights in Aotearoa New Zealand – and will complement other work the Commission undertakes, increasing our public reach and impact.

By combining three strands - human rights, education principles and practices, and digital experiences - the Commission’s Online Human Rights Education Programme:

  • positions the Commission as a centre of easy to access human rights resources and education
  • provides users with the ability to learn at times that suit them
  • provides tailored and interactive learning modules that educate people about human rights, and the cultural and societal issues related to them
  • makes learning about human rights more accessible

The programme can be tailored to a wide variety of audiences and education levels – meaning it’s able to be used in the classroom or in an office. It is also collaborative, so users will be able to suggest improvements, new topics and issues and share their experiences with the courses.
