21st and 22nd review of NZ under CERD

On 15 and 16 August New Zealand is being reviewed by the United Nations committee responsible for overseeing compliance with the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination.

NGO Briefing Session

On 14 August at 8pm NZ time the Committee will be hosting an NGO briefing session in Geneva in preparation for both the New Zealand review and the Canadian review (which is being held during the same committee session). This session provides an opportunity for interested stakeholders to speak directly to the Committee to inform its consideration of New Zealand’s implementation of CERD. The Ministry of Justice and the Commission have worked with the Committee Secretariat to arrange a video link through the Commission’s Auckland office for those who are not able to attend the session in Geneva.

If you would like to attend the video linked session can you please notify Cristina Victor ([email protected]) before 5pm 10 August. Please advise the name of the intended participant, any group or organisation that the participant is representing, and your contact details.  Because there will be limited time available we encourage individuals and organisations to work together around thematic issues and to nominate a spokesperson to present this information to the committee.  This will assist in ensuring that there is sufficient time for all parties to brief the Committee on the broad range of issues facing New Zealand in relation to CERD implementation.

Date: 14 August

Time: 8 -10 pm (please arrive before 7.40pm, Commission staff will meet you outside the entrance and provide access to the foyer and lifts to the 7th floor)

Location: Human Rights Commission Offices, Level 7, The AIG Building, 41 Shortland Street, Auckland
